After the huge win of its TV series "Annie" at the recent Golden Globe Awards, Amazon Studios announced it's going into the movie business.
The Washington-based firm said it will start making original full-length films this year. Amazon Studios has introduced Amazon Original Movies, its movie production arm that aims to make 12 movies a year.

Amazon Original Movies will "focus on unique stories, voices, and characters from top and up-and-coming creators."
"We look forward to expanding our production efforts into feature films. Our goal is to create close to twelve movies a year with production starting later this year," said Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios.
It typically takes 39 to 52 weeks before a movie launched in theaters is made available on subscription video services. On the other hand, Amazon Original Movies targets to launch a theatrical movie in Amazon Prime Instant Video just four to eight weeks after the film's debut in cinemas.
"Not only will we bring Prime Instant Video customers exciting, unique, and exclusive films soon after a movie's theatrical run, but we hope this program will also benefit filmmakers, who too often struggle to mount fresh and daring stories that deserve an audience," Price said.
The announcement also said independent film advocate Ted Hope will head production for Amazon Original Movies. Hope was acclaimed for his Academy-nominated films like "Crouching Tiger, the Hidden Dragon." He's also known as the producer with the most wins in Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize.
