If you love your smartphone, chances are your screen is absolutely smothered in app icons.  Looking for the app you want right now could become a huge problem

No problem. Nokia has just launched "Z Launcher" for Android that should make it easier for users to find the apps and contacts right now. A pre-beta version has been released with limited availability.

Z Launcher modifies Android's home screen to include a list of apps that constantly change according to the owner's usage patterns, geographical location or time of day.

Even cooler is that Z Launcher allows a user to search for contacts and apps by simply drawing the first letter or letters of the app or contact's name on the home screen, à la Scribble. It's as simple as A, B, C.

Nokia said Z Launcher is a must have since it's discovered that users have 48 apps on their smartphones on average. This number is definitely on the rise, a situation that will lead to confusingly overcrowded home screens.

Users that install Z Launcher will see a revamped home screen with a clean interface and a list of apps. Z Launcher will "learn" the apps the user uses most often and the people the user contacts throughout each day.

It will place your most used apps and contacts at the top of a list at specific times of the day, based on what Z Launcher thinks the user needs at the time. Really smart huh?

The more a user uses his smartphone with the Z Launcher, the better the launcher gets in predicting the user's needs at certain times of the day.

Nokia said the Z Launcher's first version will have initially have a limited release, with updates on new versions, availability and features to be posted in the next few months.
