Aston Martin Sports Cars Soon to be Equipped With Solar Powered Air Conditioning

In an effort to keep the drivers cool, famous British sports-car manufacturer Aston Martin is going to add an air-conditioning system to its cars which will run on solar power.
The company has reportedly partnered with Hanergy Global Solar Power and Applications group to bring their idea into practice. The project aims to equip cars with extremely thin solar panels which can support air conditioning system without any aid from the engine.

According to the FIA, which is the organization that maintains standards and rules of the World Endurance Championship, the sports cars should maintain the temperature of the cockpit below 32 degrees. This is to protect the drivers from dehydration and overheating. Generally, the air conditioning system in a car draws its energy from the car's combustion engine, which reduces its efficiency and power.
"It's a bit of a balancing game at the moment," says Dan Sayers, chief engineer at Aston Martin Racing. "The air-conditioning system uses engine power, however, keeping the drivers cool and more comfortable is essential. If we can find a solution that keeps the driver cool without the negative effects on performance, then it could have a really positive impact on GT racing."
Aston Martin has stated that this move made by them is for the comfort of the drivers, and not for any purposes related to environment.
The solar technology is under work to be used in the V8 Vantage GTE cars. If all goes well, then Aston Martin will use it for V8 Vantage GT4 and V12 Vantage GT3 models as well.
