It has been three long years since Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and fellow musician Ashlee Simpson divorced, but the memory of what went wrong with their marriage is still fresh for the rocker.

Pete sat down with Howard Stern a few days ago for an interview and he opened up about their split and how they co-parent their son, Bronx.

Pete said that their marriage began to crumble when Fall Out Boy went on hiatus in 2010. "At 31, we'd had all these great years as a band, and then we took time off, and I basically became Mr. Mom. I had the beard, the flannel shirt. I didn't know what my identity was. That factored in. When your identity is what you do, it's hard when you stop doing it."

"It was the first time where I was like, 'Well, no one's really taking my picture. I'm just basically hanging out with my kid all day. Who cares?' I think when you stop caring about your personal appearance, your personal hygiene, it makes you even more depressed, but it makes you do it more," Pete revealed. "It's like a vicious cycle."

Aside from his own downward spiral, Pete also blamed their age and said that it's a factor in their split. He and Ashlee married in May 2008. Pete was 29 and Ashlee was just 24.

He explained to Stern, "I think there's an important thing where you know how to fight, because you can fight with somebody and it's not the end of everything. But if you don't know how to have those arguments, then they become nuclear. And we were doing this all in the public eye, which doesn't help."

Pete revealed that he thought they were going to be "forever", but he does not appear to have any ill feelings towards his ex-wife. However, he was upfront about getting mad about the timing of everything. Stern asked him, "Don't you feel betrayed when your wife breaks up with you at your low point?" To which Pete replied, "I would be an idiot to think that I didn't contribute to the unraveling of it. Of course, at first, I'm like, 'This sucks! You bailed on me!' But you get perspective. We have a kid together. Our kid is awesome. He's great."

Pete discussed the way their co-parent Bronx and gleefully shared that sometimes he takes the little guy with him while touring. "We've actually figured out how to parent that way in a really good healthy way. And we can be friends."

Both of them have seemingly moved on from the breakup, as well. Pete now have a son, Saint Lazslo, with girlfriend Meagan Camper, while Ashlee is now married to Diana Ross' son, Evan Ross and are expecting their first child together.
