A new study shows that people who actively engage in casual sex reap more positive health benefits.
The study, titled "Who Benefits from Casual Sex? The Moderating Role of Sociosexuality," found that engaging in casual sex may actually be beneficial to one's self-esteem and reduce the risk of anxiety. The results of the study was published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.

The researchers surveyed 371 undergraduates for an academic year, asking them about their sexual activity and how they felt about it. Results showed that both men and women comfortable with the idea of casual sex reported feeling better after doing the deed.
According to Dr. Zhana Vrangalova, NYU professor and lead author of the study, the positive effects of casual sex can be attributed to acting in accordance to what is true to one's self, thus feeling better about one's self.
Although past reports show that women are less likely to enjoy casual sex as much as men due to their emotional nature, this study showed very minimal overall differences between genders.
Though casual sex generally benefits the emotional aspect of a person, sexual intercourse in general is found to be beneficial to a healthy body.
Health benefits include a stronger immune system, lower blood pressure and lower risk of having a heart attack. It also counts as exercise since a lot of your muscles will be put to work, not to mention the calories you will lose when you do the deed.
Aside from that, most people who are sexually active get more sound sleep, feel less stressed and seem happier than those who do not. Women also experience lighter periods-that is, fewer abdominal cramps.
