FIFA said late Tuesday that it plans on opening disciplinary proceedings against Uruguay forward Luis Suarez, after he reportedly bit an Italian opponent during a game earlier that day.
Uruguay beat Italy with a 1-0 score in a match that sealed Uruguay's advancement in the World Cup and officially eliminated Italy from the running.

However, 10 minutes before the match ended, Suarez and Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini collided in Italy's penalty area. Chiellini pulled open his shirt after the collision to furiously reveal a bit mark to the referee.
Reuters photographs showed what appeared to be bite marks on the Italian's shoulder and also showed an image of Suarez sitting on the ground holding his teeth immediately after the incident occurred.
FIFA then confirmed that it would be following up with disciplinary proceedings and gave Suarez and the Uruguayan soccer association until 5 p.m. on Wednesday to provide any evidence and to clarify their position before the proceedings moved forward.
Chiellini told Rai TV that Suarez knew exactly what he was doing when the two collided in Tuesday's game:
"It is clear, clear-cut and then there was the obvious dive afterwards because he knew very well that he did something that he shouldn't have done."
Suarez contended that the incident and its aftermath was coincidental and unplanned.
This isn't the first time that Suarez has been penalized for questionable behavior on the field. Last year, he was banned for 10 games after biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League match. In 2010, Suarez was suspended for seven games after he bit PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal.
Four years ago, Suarez also experienced some drama at the World Cup and missed Uruguay's semi-final game against the Netherlands after he was responsible for a handball which denied Ghana a match-winning goal in a quarter-final match.
