(Photo : REUTERS/KAI PFAFFENBACH) Smoke and flames rise over a hill near the Syrian town of Kobani after an airstrike, as seen from the Mursitpinar crossing on the Turkish-Syrian border in the southeastern town of Suruc in Sanliurfa province, October 23, 2014.
Kurdish forces on Monday celebrated victory over their ousting of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants from Kobani.
Observers are dubbing the event as a historic and significant victory not only for the Kurds but also for other countries that have supported the United States-led coalition against ISIS.

The Kurds have already raised their flag on a hill where the black banner of the ISIS once was raised. Gunmen of the Kurds reportedly opened fire in the air as they celebrated their victory and male and female fighters were seen hugging each other and dancing around.
ISIS' failure to completely seize Kobani was a blow to the plans of the extremists. The Kurdish militia has cost the group a lot since airstrikes were continuous and the attacks were withering.
Senior Kurdish official Idriss Nassan said in a statement, "Daesh gambled on Kobani and lost. Their defenses have collapsed and its fighters have fled," in reference to the ISIS members.
As of January, there were already 1,000 recorded deaths of ISIS members and that their heavy weaponries have already been destroyed. Although the group brought in additional reinforcement, most of which are teenagers and children, this reportedly signaled that the group already has a shortage in their forces.
The anti-ISIS coalition's number of airstrikes have increased since October last year and critics are saying the attacks paid off well. U.S. officials said they have not yet confirmed if the Kurdish forces are in full control of the area but noted that they have no reason not to believe the reports.
A senior U.S. official said based on information they have gathered, the Kurds have gained control of the central and southern areas of Kobani but ISIS militants still hold a significant number of areas around Kobani.
According to the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human, the Kurdish militia or the People's Protection Units (YPG) started to search houses in the eastern suburbs of Kobani in an attempt to dismantle and detonate bombs and booby-traps that were set up by the ISIS militants.
