Harry Potter star Emma Watson, best remembered for playing Hermione in the fantasy film series, is slated to become a Disney fairy tale princess, as she announced on Facebook that she will give life to the legendary character of Belle in upcoming live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

 "I'm finally able to tell you... that I will be playing Belle in Disney's new live-action Beauty and the Beast!," Watson announced on Facebook.

Watson remembered watching the animated fairy tale when she was growing up. "...it almost feels surreal that I'll get to dance to 'Be Our Guest' and sing 'Something There,'" she said.

"My six year old self is on the ceiling - heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can't wait for you to see it," the UN Women Goodwill ambassador said.  

Bill Condon, whose directorial credits include Dreamgirls and the last two installments of Twilight, is set to direct the film.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last October, Condon revealed that the live-action adaptation would be a musical that would let the audience take a glimpse of the Alan Menken and Howard Ashman songs featured in the 1991 animated film. Also, fans would be given a treat with new songs by Menken

"Technology, we hope, has finally caught up to that treatment of the story, so I think we're all kind of excited to bring that brilliant, amazing score and beautiful story into three dimensions," Condon said.

According to a statement from Disney, production is expected to begin later in 2015.
