Wang Yang said, many migrant workers don't watch TV, but they use cellphone. We can remind them of food safety by sending public messages. Taobao.com sell food as well, when selling food the website can remind the public of some important food safety issues. In that way, buyer will not be fooled anymore. This is a good method to solve food safety problems.
Wang Yang said: "Non-government industry associations of food producers should play a role in enhancing food safety and quality. I hope every member; every business and every organization could take responsibility for food safety. In order to protect our health, every one of us should become a food safety supervisor, a guardian and a beneficiary."
Ma Yun responded to Vice-Premier's advice by telling a story. He said: "If we don't solve it together, the problem will become tougher. 7 years ago, when I went back to the countryside I once lived in, the villagers served me with dinner. They told me these vegetables are grown for people in city, those vegetables are for ourselves." But these farmers don't realize that water is always flowing and the air is always circulating.
Zhang Yong, chief of the China Food and Drug Administration, said that regulation of food safety is part of social management, so it requires participation of all stakeholders including government agencies, the public and the food industry. Government supervision and law enforcement alone can hardly ensure food safety given its great variety and complexity. So industry practitioners should be first in line to ensure and be accountable for food safety and quality.
