Netanyahu's Speech Before U.S. Congress Seen As Election Tactic

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was called out by his ambassador to Washington Michael B. Oren and his former military intelligence chief Amos Yadlin about his planned speech before the U.S. Congress on Iran's nuclear projects.
Both men pointed out that it is an irresponsible move that could affect the future of their country, and urged Netanyahu to cancel his plans. Oren is said to be running for Parliament while Yadlin is the current defense minister of the Zionist Camp.

The comments of the two men against Netanyahu's speech are seen as politically-motivated statements since the Prime Minister is accused of using the speech to bolster his status for the upcoming elections in Israel on March 17, just two weeks after his speech.
The speech of Netanyahu will be a crucial step for the Iranians developing nuclear weapons as he is being supported by the U.S. Congress in giving new sanctions to the said country. However, bills regarding sanctions against Iran will be held off until late March.
Political analysts are saying that Netanyahu being attacked by his opponents regarding pocketbook issues and corruption might not be enough but international isolation, as in Washington not supporting the country in the international community, might be a factor for the Prime Minister to lose in the coming elections as Israelis are concerned with such issue.
According to a professor at the Bar Ilan University, Eytan Gilboa, "People are now questioning his judgment. If the opposition would not just focus on economic and social issues, but also argue against his claims on security and foreign policy, I think this exercise might backfire."
Netanyahu, on the other hand, addressed on Sunday that his take on the nuclear programs of Iran is not at all politically motivated. He noted that his speech is to "enunciate the state of Israel's position and in order to defend its future and its existence".
House Speaker John Boehner was the one who invited Netanyahu to talk and has not asked the Obama administration and his Democratic counterparts about this that has led to the president warning Netanyahu to back off. Obama also noted that he will not be meeting with Netanyahu when he arrives in town for the speech.
