Nearly three months since the Boko Haram kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria, the militant group is showing no signs of letting up and abducted 91 more people in a series of deadly village raids in northern Nigeria over the weekend.

News sources revealed on Tuesday that the extremist group has kidnapped 60 females and 31 boys, with the youngest victim being around 3 years of age.

Conflicting reports have emerged as to the death toll inflicted by the Boko Haram, with some sources claiming fatality rates as low as four and as high as 30.

Aji Khalil, the leader of a local group set up to defend villagers, told reporters:

"Some suspected Boko Haram members invaded ... and kidnapped 91 persons. More than 60 married women and young girls as well as children, young men were forcefully taken away by Boko Haram terrorists. Four villagers who tried to escape were shot dead on the spot."

A local government official in Borno state reported similar figures, saying that around 60 women had been forcibly taken by the extremist group.

The recent attacks point to the Nigerian government's failure to curb further attacks and provide security to its citizens.

Perhaps most disheartening is that although locals confirmed the recent round of raids and kidnappings, Nigerian security forces have denied them - possibly in hopes of staving off international outrage and further involvement in the struggling nation's issues.

The Boko Haram is a militant group which hopes to enforce an Islamic state in Nigeria. The faction is known to loathe Western ideals and the nickname 'Boko Haram' roughly translates to mean "Western education is sinful."

Some 276 schoolgirls who were kidnapped by the Boko Haram in April have yet to be found, calling into question the possibility that they have been sold into slavery or even killed.
