Sam Smith has been endlessly compared to Adele since his album "Stay With Me" was released. While he is okay with being compared to the Grammy-winner, he says that he would still love to stand out on his own.
In an interview for Rolling Stone magazine, Sam sat down with Patrick Doyle and explained, "We're very different and I feel like the constant comparisons might piss her off." However, Sam added that he considers the "Rumour Has It" singer to be his "Michael Jackson" and continued explaining his frustration about how "people can't digest two pop stars singing really personal songs who don't look like normal pop stars."

Despite the comparisons though, friends of the "Stay With Me" singer, like Taylor Swift has nothing but wonderful things to say about him. Talking to Rolling Stone about Sam, she said, "People just want someone real to listen to, and the vulnerability Sam is willing to project comes off as bravery, because it's authentic."
Aside from revealing how he felt about being compared to Adele, he also discussed his experiences with bullying. He said that he has always tolerated the name calling and shared an experience, "I got punched in my neck [for wearing makeup], just out of nowhere. It wasn't the easiest."
But Sam clarifies that his experiences are what inspire him to create music and those are the probably the reason why so many people can relate to his songs-just like Adele's.
