Cablevision is taking Verizon to court over "false advertising" of the fastest Wi-Fi speeds in the tri-state area, claiming Verizon isn't offered speeds as fast as Cablevision.
Verizon ran the advert in New York last month in Verizon's "Ice Cream Tasty" TV spot. The advert claimed "The fastest Wi-Fi available from any provider".

"Verizon's claim that it has faster Wi-Fi than Cablevision is false, deceptive and designed to mislead consumers," Cablevision said in a statement. "In addition, Verizon's in-home routers are not faster than Optimum Smart Routers and cost Verizon customers hundreds of dollars while Optimum's are free."
Cablevision also claims Verizon is trying to prevent FreeWheel, a new mobile Wi-Fi service, from entering the market. Cablevision owns FreeWheel, and this could be a deterrent to mobile subscribers, hurting Verizon Wireless.
The Cablevision and Verizon rivalry has been one of the few in America, with both offering high broadband speeds. A few years ago both stopped competing on price and instead focused on speeds and routers.
This lack of competition in price has stopped customers from paying attention the rivalry. It's focused customer attention focusing on which one can provide faster internet speeds. Normally Verizon's FiOS service wins in that regard.
Verizon hasn't responded for comment.
