Val Kilmer Undergoes Emergency Throat Surgery

Actor Val Kilmer was taken to the operating room Monday following bleeding from the throat because of suspected tumor.

According to the Santa Monica Fire Department, People confirmed that a man was taken from Kilmer's residence to the hospital after a call was made to 911 Monday night.

"We received a call at 11:31 p.m. from that address," a statement from the fire department was made.

 "He was transported ALS [advanced life support] to the hospital."

ALS paramedics are immediately sent to respond to serious emergencies of really grave danger to. They can administer IVs, provide more medications and other support as compared to the usual private ambulances, which respond only to minor injuries.

"It's not uncommon for an ALS crew to respond to an incident," the spokesperson said.

The 55-year-old Top Gun actor immediately underwent a procedure on the throat at the UCLA Medical Center. He is now believed to be recovering.

While reports surfaced that Kilmer's family already knew of his condition, the actor refuses to speak about it publicly. His representative also did not issue any statement about the hospitalization.

Kilmer, who is best known for a string of hits, including Willow, The Doors, Batman Forever, and Tombstone, already looked sickly since last year after a he lost a considerable amount of weight.

Kilmer stole the spotlight in 2013 when he made himself look like Mark Twain for Citizen Twain, the one-man show that he wrote and directed.

His latest gigs included lending his voice to the animated Disney film Planes, as well as a role in the comedic IFC miniseries The Spoils of Babylon.
