Former rap executive Marion "Suge" Knight was just trying to run for his life when he supposedly hit two people - killing one of them - in Compton, Thursday afternoon, James Blatt, his lawyer, revealed.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Knight was assaulted by a group of people, threatening to kill him, as they tried to get him of his care, until he successfully escape.

However, police officers have a rather different view of the story.

After interrogating the onetime hip-hop mogul, Los Angeles County detectives placed him under arrested for alleged murder.

Knight was questioned at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in West Hollywood early Friday, won't be released unless a US$2-million bail is served.

"The investigation is in the very beginning stages," Blatt said.

Knight's camp is confident that he would be eventually exonerated and released.

The 49-year-old record producer is believed to have run over two men with his truck after a heated discussion on a film set in Compton.

Sources revealed that the argument started at around 3 p.m. on Thursday after Knight and two unknown men were said to be arguing on the set of Straight Outta Compton, which tells the story of the group N.W.A., Lt. John Corina of the Sheriff's Department's detectives unit said.

Meanwhile, report of sources from TMZ can reveal that Suge had got into an altercation with Dr. Dre's security. He was eventually ordered to leave by off-duty officers on the set. 

A little while, Terry Carter called Suge telling him he already talked with Dre. Carter told Suge he would be taking him to a place where they could discuss their problems, but Suge claimed Carter jumped on him even while he was still on his truck.

Dre and Suge used to both co-own Death Row Records. Their partnership eventually ended and Dre transferred to Interscope.
