Eddie Murphy Returns To SNL

Thirty years after leaving the show that initially propelled him to comedic superstardom, Eddie Murphy will finally make a comeback on Saturday Night Live but the comedian confirmed his return to Studio 8H for the show's 40th anniversary special.

"It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it," Murphy told News One Now in a phone interview.

"They're having a 40th anniversary. ... I'm going to that. And that will be the first time I've been back since I left," he explained.

Eddie Murphy became one of the most iconic comedians in his stint on the show in the shows' early 80s run.

Now fans can reminisce the time when Murphy was still a show regular as he is slated to appear on the series' three-hour 40th anniversary special, which will air on February 15.

"It's just timing," Murphy said in the interview.

Murphy is just one of the many stars throughout the 40-year run who will appear on the special, although NBC has not yet released the complete list of celebrities who will grace the event. But no matter who shows up, Murphy's come back will definitely catch the attention and hold the excitement of SNL fans.

Murphy, who's most recent film was in 2012's critical panned A Thousand Words, has recently slowed down in his career. His most famous films include 48 Hrs., Beverly Hills Cop series, Trading Places, The Nutty Professor, and Dreamgirls. Murphy has also lent his voice to Donkey in the Shrek franchise and the Mushu in Disney's Mulan.
