Any day now, humankind will see the extreme consequences of losing a World Cup bet in outer space.
American astronauts Reid Wiseman and Steven Swanson on board the orbiting International Space Station or ISS made a bet with German astronaut Alexander Gerst on the outcome of the just-ended World Cup match between title favorites Germany and up-and-coming youngster, the USA.

Gerst said he promised to let the Americans draw a U.S. flag on his head if Germany lost the heavily anticipated match. Wiseman and Swanson, on the other hand, promised to shave their heads bald if the U.S. lost.
Now, we all know the final result of that match: Germany beat the U.S. 1-0 to top Group G, also called the "Group of Death," because of the high quality of its four competing teams: Germany, the U.S., Portugal and Ghana.
Gerst expects the Americans to stay true to their word. And so, the world will soon be treated to that very rare celestial phenomenon of two bald Americans in the ISS showing off their glistening pates to the entire world.
The other three men aboard the ISS, who are all Russian cosmonauts, also await the Americans to pay the price for losing their bet against Gerst.
No word when the Americans plan to do the deed, but the wait will be worth it.
Both Americans are also space celebrities who recently made the news for newsworthy reasons. Wiseman on June 6 made social media history by tweeting the first Vine video shot in outer space to his Twitter followers on Earth. The six second video loop shows the sun reflecting off solar panels of the ISS.
Swanson, on the other hand, is the current commander of Expedition 40 at the ISS. He is also the first astronaut to have designed a mission patch whose symbols are inspired by the Klingon Empire made famous by the hit TV and movie franchise, Star Trek.
For those who haven't followed the voyages of the starship, USS Enterprise, the Klingons are an alien warrior race that have sworn to destroy the human race and the United Federation of Planets.
Swanson, who holds a doctorate in computer science, designed an original artwork for the Expedition 40 crew patch that pays homage to Star Trek but looks very Klingon. NASA thumbed down Swanson's Klingon-inspired patch, however.
And while the world waits for the Americans to show off their bald tops, the astronauts and cosmonauts on the ISS continue to play the rarest form of football in the universe: Space Cup football in weightless space.
