Google Ventures, the search engine's venture capital group and one of Uber's largest investors at $258 million back in August 2013, explores the ride-sharing market with the unique possibility of using its revolutionary driverless car for the project.
This poses a threat to Uber as it would directly compete with the ride-hailing services the company offers.

Google's Uber investment is the largest known investment deal made and the tech giant has since invested more in Uber within that year.
Talks of the innovating giant taking over Uber even filled the air as Google's chief legal officer and senior vice president of corporate development, David Drummond, was appointed member of the transportation company's board of directors two years ago.
Speculations were rife that Google may steal Uber's market share in the industry following the circulation of screenshots of a possible ride-sharing app of Google that the employees have been using. Sources say Uber's board may consider asking Drummond to resign his board member position in light of this development.
On the other hand, Uber is seen to also compete with Google's driverless vehicle by partnering with Carnegie Mellon University for a research facility in Pittsburgh, Pa., to produce its own autonomous vehicle technology.
Meanwhile, Google's driverless car, developed in the Google X research lab, is seen to be commercially ready for use in two to five years time. At Detroit's January auto show, Chris Urmson, who heads the project, pitched the idea of pick and and drop offs by the autonomous cars circulating in neighborhoods.
The possibilities seem endless as Urmson describes a service for hailing the driverless car to bring you where you need to go. This worries Uber's board as beyond capital investment, Google also supports Uber's mobile app with the integration of Google maps in its system.
A competition among the two would also not bode well for Uber as it may severely cut of its resources for developing its own driverless vehicles.
Both Google and Uber have declined to comment on the matter.
