The Pirates of the Caribbean actor went to China last April to promote his sci-fi movie "Transcendence".
"My expectations were very high," Depp said. "From the very first second, I was impressed. It's beautiful, the foliage is different, the styles of architecture are different. I would love to make a film here and spend time here. I could live here, easily. It's a very warm experience."
It was his first trip to the mainland and that's when he saw the reality show that intrigued him.
Chinese Dream is a TV reality show from China that showcases ordinary people showing off their talents and complete tasks in order to get prizes. Depp dreamed of becoming a rock star when he was younger but eventually ended up acting which pays for his bills.
Depp is best known for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean whose 5th sequel "Dead Men Tell No Tales" is scheduled for release in 2016. He is currently filming "Black Mass", a biopic film of a notorious Irish American mobster named James "Whitey" Bulger.
Black Mass is based on a New York Times bestseller "Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob," by Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill.
Bulger went on the run in 1994 after being placed in the FBI's most-wanted list for committing 19 murders in the state of New England. He was later arrested in June of 2011 in Sta. Monica, California at the age of 81.
It was said that the reward for his capture was second only in terms of sum to that offered for information leading to the arrest of Osama bin Laden.
