The story goes that the Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, gave the custom-built Mercedes Benz 540 K Cabriolet B to Goering. The war-era car is now located in High Velocity Classics, a vehicle shop in South Florida.

According to David Rathbun, co-owner of High Velocity Classics.

“We’ve located all the replacement parts and we can make parts,” Rathbun said.

The owner plans to spend US$750,000 to restore and bring back the classic car back to its good working condition.

The U.S. Army’s 7th Infantry Division seized the war-era car in Berchtesgaden and became an army surplus. The head of a psychology institution in Heilbronn sold it to Master Sergeant Sam Hosier in Germany. Eventually, Hosier decided to bring it to US and sold it in 1955 to the present owner, a North Carolina man.

Upon learning that the auction will be up in early July, eBay requested the owners to take it down. Ryan Moore, the eBay spokesman sent an email that said, “eBay has policies in place that prohibit the sale of offensive materials and content, which includes listings that promote or glorify hatred, violence or racial, sexual or religious intolerance.”

The 1941 Mercedes Benz owners would not disclose how much they paid for it, but they are hoping to sell it for US$5 million to US$7 million.
