The United Nations (UN) has appointed a new chairman for the commission of inquiry into the unresolved conflicts between the countries involved in the Gaza crisis last year.

Mary McGowan Davis, an American and a current member of the commission, is due to replace incumbent Canadian leader William Schabas. The latter resigned on Tuesday due to accusations of being biased and anti-Israel.

Israelis accused Schabas of documented and clear bias as he revealed that he was indeed part of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

The commission of inquiry is investigating possible violations regarding human rights by both countries and it will be presented on the 23rd of March this year. But because of Schabas' acknowledgement of his PLO affiliation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that the whole investigation be scrapped.

Netanyahu pointed out that the Human Rights Council is an anti-Israel commission, which is why it pushed for more sanctions against the country last year.

Netanyahu and Israel still refuses to cooperate with the commission despite having a new leader. However, Senegalese investigator Doudou Diene assured that there will be no biased views and opinions in the investigation.

The Gaza crisis has been a lingering issue between the Israelis and Palestinians as both countries continue to commit war crimes against each other. According to reports, the clashes have left 2,100 Palestinians dead, most of them are civilians.

The Gaza conflict has also killed 67 Israeli soldiers six civilians. Both Israel and Gaza have sustained damage to thousands of homes and buildings due to the attacks.

The war between Israel and Gaza erupted in July 2014 and the two countries were able to close a ceasefire agreement in August of the same year.
