After LeBron James declared he wanted out, another Miami Heat star, Dwayne Wade announces that he too will opt out of his remaining contract with the Heat over the weekend.
Four-time National Basketball Association (NBA) Most Valuable Player (MVP) James James has opted out of his remaining two- year contract, which amounts to US$42.7 million, with the Miami Heat and becoming a free agent this coming July 1 early last week.
Wade, also part of Miami's the "Big 3," along with Udonis Haslem, will become free agents Tuesday.
Miami president Pat Riley issued a statement regarding Dwayne's [and Haslem's] announcement and the star player's contribution to the team.
"Dwyane has been the cornerstone of our organization for over a decade, and we hope he remains a part of the Heat family for life. Udonis has been the heartbeat of this team for 11 years." Riley said. "He has sacrificed countless times to make this organization successful, and he is the epitome of what this organization stands for. We look forward to meeting with Dwyane and Udonis and their agent in the coming days to discuss our future together."
Riley described Dwayne a world champion and a Miami Hear for life.
"He's an icon. He's one of the great players in the world," Riley added.
The Heat president said that Dwayne's physical condition, though suffered a few injuries here and there, is still in tip-top form. Riley said the star player does not have any debilitating injury that could end Dwayne's career.
"He's too smart, he's too good, he's too talented to not be able to play a major role for years to come." he said. "Those changes, he and I will sit down and we'll talk about them."
Wade also has two-years remaining in his contract with Miami for the sum of US$41.8 million.
Chris Bosh, the last member of the "Big 3", has until Monday to decide whether he wants to opt out of his remaining contract.
