Following a seven-month sabbatical from the sport, Lin, 30, ranked 104th and had to qualify for the Aussie Open.
During the first game of the finals, Santoso started out strong and won, but Lin responded and took control of the match. Lin finished strong and ended the event with his outstanding shots.
Lin rose to rank 22 after defeating the 18th ranked player from Indonesia (or Indonesian player). Lin is expected to go higher in rankings and make it to top 10.
Many considered Lin as one of the greatest singles players after he completed the 'Super Grand Slam' winning nine major titles. He became the first and only player to achieve this at age 28.
In 2001, Lin's professional career was launched and he took his first title the year after at the Korea Open. During the course of his career, he won different titles from many events around the world including the Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games and Asian Championships.
