Apple Maps and Apple Search are Coming

(Photo : Claycord) Apple has started using Dodge Caravans to map areas in Silicon Valley.

Apple Maps might still be a shadow behind the more popular Google Maps, but Cupertino is preparing a new feature that might turn the tables.

Spotted in Clayton and Concord, Massachusetts, Dodge Caravans are currently roaming the streets with large white cameras attached, mapping out the local area.

Sound familiar? If you've ever seen a Google 'Street View' car, it should. These Dodge Caravans are reportedly being leased by Apple for work on a new Apple Maps' Street View.

This will give Apple Maps the same Street View feature Google has been working on for years. Aple Maps, however, is currently being tested only in the United States.

Having Street View on Apple Maps would be a big boon for the mapping service, even if it's still behind Google on other features. It could integrate well with Apple's 3D maps, which have gotten a lot better since 2012.

Apple Maps suffered a media disaster when it launched on iOS 6, failing to work and showing awful glitches. The service was so bad CEO Tim Cook issued a public apology and fired head of services Scott Forstall.

Even though Apple's hardware performance is unquestioned, its lack of core services is starting to become apparent. FaceTime isn't the killer app it was in 2012. iMessage is less interesting now that texts are unlimited on almost all packages and iTunes' revenue is dropping year by year.

On top of these new features, we might also be seeing a search engine coming from Apple very soon, alongside other new services to compliment iOS.
