How far would you go for a cheap airfare?
China's first budget carrier, Spring Airlines, plans to offer passengers a standing slot in the flight at a discounted rate.
While many may be surprised with the idea, or may find it unusual, this is not the first time the "standing-room" plan was proposed.

In 2008, Spring Airlines, had tried to introduce the standing-room plan during the Chinese New Year holiday-the busiest travel season of the year for the Chinese. Spring Airlines Chairman Wang Zhenghua thought travelers would welcome the idea, since people had difficulty getting rail or air tickets.
Low-cost Irish Airline Ryanair had also been trying to introduce standing room in flights for the past years.
Last year, plane manufacturer Airbus tried to patent a bicycle-like triangular seat that would maximize cabin room. But it also ended up to be the most uncomfortable plane ride ever.
Despite a number of proposals, airlines have not succeeded in getting the nod of aviation authorities to proceed with the plan. Officials say, the standing room plan has to be further studied, citing airline safety issues like turbulence and lengthy flights.
"We need many other conditions to make it work, like working together with airplane manufacturers, getting the approval from the authorities and having the consumers accept the idea," a spokesman for Spring Airlines said to China National Radio.
Should they get the green light, Spring Airlines said they will immediately offer the service. Spring Airlines has offered cheap promotional flight fares for as low at 9 yuan or about $1.40.
