General Motors announced on Friday that it would recall more than 480,000 vehicles worldwide, a day after it announced that it would freeze orders and recall about 33,000 Chevrolet Cruze models for potential defects in its Takata airbags, USA Today reported.
The bulk of the recalls comprise 392,459 latest generation four-wheel drive SUVs and pickups including 2014-2015 models of the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra. GM said the cars could have a faulty module software that electronically switches to neutral without the driver wanting it to do so that could result to parked cars rolling away "if the parking brake is not set," GM explained.

Around 4,800 2013-2014 Chevy Caprice and 2014 Chevy SS sport sedans are also being recalled for non-operational windshield wipers, the auto maker announced. The company said the dealers will have to inspect and if needed, replace the windshield wiper assemblies of the recalled vehicles.
Further, nearly 2,000 2014 Chevrolet Corvettes are also being recalled because of problems with rear shock absorbers that could lead to fracture or a reduction in its service life.
GM has reported no known accidents, crashes or injuries caused by the above problems.
The dealers are concentrating on inspecting its cars, pickups and SUVs and expects the recalls to be completed by the end of the month, said GM CEO Mary Barra.
"We are continuing what we believe is the most comprehensive review in the history of the company," added GM spokesman Jim Cain.
Since the beginning of the year, the auto maker has recalled over 20 million in North America. The company is currently being investigated by the U.S. Congress, Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission because of an 11-year delay of recalls for defective ignition switches that reportedly led to 54 crashes and 13 deaths, according to the Wall Street Journal.
