Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd.'s Guangdong Branch (Guangdong Unicom) recently announced the deployment of the world's first Atom Router for commercial use.
"The industry's first deployment of an Atom Router for commercial use proves the maturity and commercial readiness of Huawei's innovative IP technologies and E2E solutions, and will enable Guangdong Unicom to build leading and optimized networks for users." said Gai Gang, Huawei's president of its Carrier IP product line.

"Huawei is dedicated to the needs of its customers, and will continue to help them to develop golden pipelines, open networks, and value-added services."
The Atom Router uses Huawei's Intelligent Perception solution and will help China Unicom develop networks to deliver mobile service experiences to consumers.
The router will enable smooth network evolution, including an upgrade from IPv4 to IPv6 networks, among others.
"The industry's first Atom Router from Huawei is developed based on customer needs and network evolution trends." said Gang.
"The router can turn traditional dumb pipes that are difficult to manage or meter into smart pipes that are open, elastic, and service-aware, adding substantial value to traditional networks".
In addition to the router, the Chinese telecom giant, along with China Mobile Communications Corporation, announced the world's first uplink carrier aggregation (CA) field test over Jiangsu Mobile's network. The test significantly increased upload speeds by 180 per cent.
