Ray Allen to Decide on Future After All-Star Break; Gains Interest from Hawks

Months of rumors have revolved around veteran shooting-guard Ray Allen on whether the 3-point specialist will be retiring or signing with another team. And according to reports, Allen is expected to finally make that decision after the NBA All-Star break.
ESPN Radio's Ryen Russillo with insight on the matter took to Twitter to announce when Allen's decision can be expected, and even mentioned a couple destinations the 39-year-old could potentially choose if he decides to stick around in the league a little longer.

"Hearing Atlanta trying to get in the Ray Allen mix. Cleveland still the favorite. Look for decision after All-Star break," Russillo said.
Allen signing a deal with the Atlanta Hawks is certainly an intriguing thought. The team has drastically turned its success around from last year's eighth-seed 38-44 record to currently the best record in the entire league and the favorite to win the Eastern Conference.
Hawks are already a good 3-point shooting team thanks in large part due to the sharpshooting Kyle Korver knocking down 53 percent of his shots from behind the arc. Allen coming off the bench and providing a veteran presence while also bringing more efficient 3-point shooting will only elevate the franchise even more.
Signing a deal with the Hawks may seem like a good business decision this late in Allen's career, but the ESPN Radio insider didn't say the Cleveland Cavaliers were the favorite for no reason.
There's no denying the level of talent on the Cavs with the new acquisitions of LeBron James and Kevin Love. The team was the early favorites to win it all, but struggled in the first-half of the season due to the lack of chemistry. Cavs have been heating it up as of late and find themselves on a 12-game win-streak.
Add the fact that Cavs are turning its season around with the fact that Allen has already gained chemistry playing with James during their stint on the Miami Heat, and you begin to understand why Allen would resign with Cleveland rather than retire and chase one last chance at winning another title.
The All-Star break runs from Feb. 13 through Feb. 15, so regardless of what path Allen decides to go for, we can at least expect the decision to come soon.
