After defeating No. 2 seed and defending Australian Open champion China's Li Na in the third round, Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova continues her rampage at the All England Club in London against 16th seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in the fourth round of play defeating her in straight sets 6-2 7-5.
It took World No. 43 Strycova one hour and 35 minutes to finish the match and landing her first appearance in a Grand Slam quarterfinal with an astounding 31 winners of the net.
"It's been unbelievable," said 28-year-old Strycova. "I can't believe it, like I said already. I put a lot of work into it, and I knew always that I can play good on grass. Now the results shows off and I am glad about it."
Strycova now faces 6th seed and fellow Czech Petra Kvitova who earlier Monday defeated China's Peng Shuai in two sets, ending Peng's chances of entering the finals.
Strycova and Kvitova are two of the three Czech nationals in a record-breaking quarterfinals appearance. The third one is 23rd seed Lucie Safarova who also won against another Czech Tereza Smitkova and makes her quarterfinals appearance for the first time at Wimbledon.
27-year-old Safarova will go up against Russian Ekaterina Makarova who ousted 4th seed Polish Agnieszka Radwanska it what seemingly a lopsided match as Makarova cruised over Radwanska in two sets 6-3 6-0.
If Safarova wins against the Russian in the quarterfinals, Czech Republic is assured of having a representative in the finals slated on Saturday.
"Amazing, isn't it?" Safarova said. "It shows that our tennis is really strong, we have great players. I'm happy for my country and I hope we just keep developing more stars like that."
"It's a huge result for me - I hope it's not the last one, it's just the start. Today was a great match for me, so I'm looking forward for the next one," Safarova added.
