FLORIDA: There's a rain system forming off the east coast that could become a tropical storm on July 4 which can affect this weekend's celebrations.

The National Hurricane Center reveals that there's a 60-80% chance that rain showers and thunderstorms will develop within the next five days, off the coast of Melbourne, Florida.

The rains can affect 4th of July celebrations in the Northeast during the later part of this week. Although it's too early to detect the storm's possible trajectory, by midweek, this rain system can form into a tropical storm. It's moving southwest towards southeastern United States where it could affect North Carolina's Outer Banks, Ocean City and Cape Cod.

"A tropical depression is likely to form by mid-week while the system moves slowly southwestward and then turns northward and northeastward near the southeastern United States coast," the hurricane center reported.

Heavy rain can be expected during the start of the week in Florida but the tropical storm will clear out over the weekend, CNN meteorologists reported. Even if it's a month into hurricane season, it is the first time since 2004 that there has been no recorded Atlantic tropical storm in May or June.

In other parts of the east coast, the National Weather Service predicts some rain activity on July 4. There will be a 60% chance of rain in New York and a 30% chance in Washington.

If the rain system turns into a tropical storm, it will be called Arthur.
