Former Tinder Exec Sues for Sexual Harassment, Discrimination

Tinder is only the most recent technology company to face legal troubles over its treatment of women after former executive Whitney Wolfe has accused the dating app of sexual harassment and discrimination.
The former marketing vice-president alleges that she was called a "whore" in front of other employees in a meeting at Tinder's Los Angeles headquarters. Reportedly, the company CEO, Sean Rad, was present and witnessed the incident but did not respond.

The complaint also claims that co-founder Justin Mateen subjected Wolfe to "horrendously sexist, racist, and otherwise inappropriate comments, emails and text messages."
According to reports, Mateen stripped Wolfe of her co-founder status, claiming that she was a 24-year-old "girl" with little experience and her holding of said status would only make the company look like a joke.
A text exchange between Rad and Wolfe was submitted as evidence. In the text, Rad acknowledges Wolfe as a co-founder but refuses to go back on his decision to take the status away from her.
Mateen also allegedly attacked Wolfe for hanging out with Muslim men while on vacation with her family in Aspen. In the supposed text, Mateen tells Wolfe: "You prefer to social climb middle aged Muslim pigs that stand for nothing."
Although Ms. Wolfe complained repeatedly to CEO Sean Rad, reportedly he ignored her complaints and referred to her as "annoying" and "dramatic." At one point, Rad even threatened to fire Wolfe if she continued to complain.
When Wolfe finally broke down after being called a "whore" by Mateen at the company event, she offered to resign in return for a modest severance and the vesting of her stock. Rad rejected her pleas and instead fired her.
An IAC spokesman, one of two Tinder parent companies, released the following statement to Time:
"Immediately upon receipt of the allegations contained in Ms. Wolfe's complaint, Mr. Mateen was suspended pending an ongoing internal investigation. Through that process, it has become clear that Mr. Mateen sent private messages to Ms. Wolfe containing inappropriate content. We unequivocally condemn these messages, but believe that Ms. Wolfe's allegations with respect to Tinder and its management are unfounded."
