The Chinese Banking Regulatory Commission (CRBC) Management Committee has confirmed that one of its employees, Li Jianhua, died on April 23 of being overworked.
In a statement translated by Google, the commission praised Li's fatal dedication to his job and considered him a role model for other Chinese workers. The CRBC said he was a "long-term overwork" and had been staying up all night to finish a report, Business Insider reported.

Li later on "fell at work" on the morning of April 23 and died. He was 48 years old, the statement said.
Based on the translated CRBC statement, the commission encouraged other Chinese workers "to learn from Comrade Li Jianhua" by upholding the ideals of the Party and "sacrifice everything." Li had poured out all his passion and effort to improve the quality of his work, CRBC said.
Bloomberg cites the statement urging all Chinese to "learn from his selfless work." According to an unnamed colleague who was not authorized to speak to the public regarding the situation, Li's department usually worked until midnight or beyond.
Li's death was the most recent case of "long-term overwork" that has gained media attention.
Last year, Ogilvy PR's China unit denied that one of its employees died from too much overtime work in the previous month. The agency insisted that the worker had just been sick.
Asians have their own terms for death-by overtime. The Chinese call it "guolaosi" and the Japanese call it "karoshi."
This overtime trend, however, is not just limited to Asians. In 2013, a 21-year-old intern at the Bank of America died in London after working for very long hours.
Li, on the other hand, had experienced an attack of shingles - which can also be related to stress - several days before he died. Bloomberg said the bank regulator was unable to go to the doctor for a check-up because of lack of time.
