The cop who planned on raping, killing, and eating women has been freed after a New York judge overturned the man's conviction, citing insufficient evidence as the reason.
Known as the 'Cannibal Cop,' Gilberto Valle was arrested and convicted in 2013 for harboring plans to kill and cook his wife as well as other women.

Early in 2012, Valle took to the internet to expound on his fantasies of raping, killing, and eating young women. According to reports, the 'Cannibal Cop' used the NYPD database to gather information on women and to compile a list of possible victims.
However, Manhattan Judge Paul Gardephe acquitted Valle on Tuesday, stating that there was insufficient evidence to prove that the police officer would bring his disturbing plans to fruition.
The judge set bail at $100,000 and ordered Valle to remain in home detention. The 40-year-old Valle would have faced life in prison for conspiracy to commit kidnapping had Judge Gardephe not overturned his conviction.
"This is a conspiracy that existed solely in cyberspace," Gardephe ruled.
The judge did uphold Valle's second conviction of wrongfully using the NYPD database to gather information, but, as he has been in prison since 2012, Valle has already served the one-year penalty for the crime.
According to prosecutors, Valle was a frequent visitor of the site darkfetishnet.com where he discussed his plans to assault and kidnap three women in February of 2012.
Later that year, Valle's wife hacked into his computer to uncover his chats and made a chilling discovery: a document titled "Abducting and Cooking Kimberly - A Blueprint," which detailed the materials the so-called 'Cannibal Cop' would need to carry out the abduction. The items included gag, rope, chloroform, and a tarp.
Valle also stated on the site that he hoped to become a "professional kidnapper" known for roasting his victims alive.
