Canadian Milos Raonic reached the semi-finals for the first time at the expense of Australian teen Nick Kyrgios in the ongoing 2014 Wimbledon Championships.
With an average recorded speed of 121 MPH, 23-year-old Raonic powered his way with numerous ballistic serves that kept 19-year-old Kyrgios at bay. Making 39 service aces, Raonic dropped only the first set and finished the match to end Kyrgios' Wimbledon dreams 6(4)-7(7) 6-2 6-4 7(7)-6(4).
The 8th seed Raonic made his way to the quarters by defeating Kei Nishikori of Japan and now faces seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer.
"I'm playing a guy that is standing in my way of what I want to achieve, and I've got to focus on everything that's there, on the situation, how best to deal with it to give myself the best possibilities to achieve what I want," Raonic said, referring to his semis match against Federer.
Federer won his match in all-Swiss quarterfinals against Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka in four sets 3-6 7(7)-6(5) 6-4 6-4.
Federer dropped the first set, his first set since the beginning of the tournament, but made some adjustments and pushed Wawrinka to a tie-break on the second which he capitalized.
Curiously enough, Wawrinka asked for a doctor after the second set. He was then given some pills but it seemed to not have worked because he eventually lost sets 3 and 4.
Federer has won 13 of the past 15 encounters with Wawrinka and all of those losses were not on grass which continues to be Federer's element.
In the other semis match, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov will face top seed Novak Djokovic who struggled on Court No. 1 against Croatian Milos Cilic in a five set stint.
The roaring and cheering of the crowd may have an effect in Djokovic's match since their matches are simultaneously ongoing. He gathered his momentum late on the 3rd set after Dimitrov finished off defending champion Andy Murray in three straight sets and went on to win the 4th and deciding 5th set.
