Defending women's doubles champions Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei and Peng Shuai of China fell short of their repeat performance in the ongoing 2014 Wimbledon Championships.
The duo failed to shake off the pressure against the Hungarian-French duo of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic, missing the ticket to the quarterfinals.
The French Open champions have pressure on their side, admitted by Shuai after the match.
"Of course we play under pressure," said Shuai. "Since we get here after the French Open everybody is talking about are we going to be the champions? There is big pressure, it is not easy but we cannot take away from that."
Peng and Hsieh took over the first set in what seem to be a routine match for them with a score of 6-4 but the Hungarian-French duo took them into a tie-break that put them under pressure, leading to their defeat.
At the third and deciding set, the Chinese tandem couldn't shake off the pressure and eventually lost the match with a final score in favor of Babos and Mladenovic 4-6 7(7)-6(5) 6-2.
Babos and Mladenovic advance to the quarterfinals and now face the duo of Russian Alla Kudryavtseva and Australian Anastasia Rodionova. A victory could mean that the two will go up against the team of Germany's Andrea Petkovic and Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova who are already waiting at the semi-finals.
The Italian duo and 2nd seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci have also reached the quarters and will now face 6th seeds Australians Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua.
Both of these teams were runner-up to Peng and Hsieh in both of their Grand Slam titles. Barty and Dellecqua were runner-up in last year's Wimbledon finals and the Errani-Vinci tandem were runner-up at the recent French Open.
The only Chinese national left in the tournament is Jie Zheng, who is also participating in the women's doubles along with partner Czech Andrea Hlavackova. The duo will face 9th seeds Russian Anastasia Pavlyyuchenkova and Czech Lucie Sarafova.
