(Photo : Apple) Apple has added another layer of security for its messaging services.

Apple is adding another layer of security onto iMessage and FaceTime, allowing users to set app specific passwords on both services.

It is a new type of two step verification for mobile apps, allowing each app to be safe under a different password. Apple is offering its own password generator for users to find strong security settings.

On top of the current Touch ID protection for users on iPhone 5S and above, the app specific password verification should block any attackers on the iOS platform-one would hope.

Apple's CEO Tim Cook claimed more work would be done to secure the mobile platform, following a devastating celebrity iCloud leak. The iCloud leak may have negatively effected Apple's chances in the cloud storage business, according to new usage reports.

The new app password feature could come to third-party apps in the near future, already apps like Dropbox are integrating Touch ID into the cloud service for more user protection.

Security leaks are starting to become more valuable as hackers turn from chaos to financial gains. Security experts claim it will only get worse in 2015, as new government funded hacking groups enter the fray.

Apple's move into China might also be a good reason to add additional security, after the opening week iCloud attack from a Chinese organization.

Two-step verification is one of the best ways to secure an account, adding an additional blockade against attackers. Twitter, Facebook and Google all use mobile verification or personal security questions to make accounts safer.
