Now, you no longer have to be alone when you experience a virtual reality (VR) game.
Fascinating new technology has upgraded VR to a group experience using a new projector that can immerse an entire room in a panoramic view of the VR simulation.
Enter Immersis.
Immersis is a single fish-eye lens that beams a 180 degree VR simulation so people in a room can experience VR together.

The new projector expands the capabilities of VR technologies while also stepping away from the initial solitary experience that VR tends to give.
In order for it to work correctly, users will need to create a 3D model of the space where Immersis will be used on.
After doing so, Immersis applies 'anamorphosis' algorithms to distort the images so they translate well when projected onto irregular walls, shapes and objects.
This innovation can also help bridge the gaps for video games that are hard to port to the 3D-scape.
The creators of Immersis realize it will be hard for people to create a 3D model of their room, so they're limiting the number of games that can take advantage of the technology.
They did find that certain games with panoramic scale -- games like Call of Duty and Skyrim -- took little to no tweaking for Immersis to work.
The Immersis Kickstarter is still up and the campaign for support is ongoing.
Whether or not the creators can deliver a new experience with Immersis, the reality is that games and films will need to evolve sooner or later.
VR simulations can totally transport the viewer to a new world within whatever is viewed. In doing so, truer emotions are experienced. Watching a zombie film isn't the same as watching it in virtual reality where you really feel like you're being chased.
The main limitation of current VR technologies, however, is that it's a very personal experience. It doesn't allow people to come together and experience the film together.
