Experts in the search for extraterrestrial life claim now is the best time to contact intelligent alien life beyond our solar system.
Experts from the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) believe sending an active signal to search for alien life called "Messages to Extraterrestrial Intelligence" (METI) is more effective than using radio telescopes to detect unusual signals from deep space that could be evidence of intelligent alien life.

The unique idea behind the transmission of METI signals toward outer space is it will be aimed at certain parts of other galaxies where Earth-like exoplanets could harbor life. This is also due to the overwhelming discoveries of the Kepler space telescope which found more than 1,000 Earth-like planets in galaxies near ours.
SETI researchers also believe sending signals can be most effective since there are now natural targets for the METI signals. Recently discovered Earth-like planets are now seen in habitable zones in galaxies light years away from ours.
SETI director Seth Shostak announced at the American Association for the Advancement of Science held recently in California this moment is advantageous for humans to attempt to search and make contact with alien life in exoplanets.
Shostak says listening to alien signals isn't enough but broadcasting active signals to some nearby stars and galaxies can wake-up alien life and hopefully provoke a response.
Actively making contact with alien life can potentially spell disaster for our planet. Physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking said in 2010 that an advanced alien civilization, once informed of our existence, will used its technology to harvest our resources and there's nothing we can do about it.
Radio astronomer Frank Drake said the active METI signals is a waste of time right now. He says it's comparable to trying to send an email to an unknown email address of a person they don't know.
