Apple Launches iWork for Free on Windows

Apple is bringing iWork to Windows without the iCloud sign-in caveat.
Apple is looking to compete more heavily with Microsoft Office by launching its iWork suite for free on Windows -- requiring nothing more than an Apple ID -- to bring Windows users onto the Dark Side.
The price was dropped from iWork two years ago following lack of sales. Apple still updates the software in the hopes customers will use the mobile and desktop versions instead of using Google Drive or Microsoft Office.

Previously, Apple offered iWork on Windows but with the caveat of an iCloud sign-in, meaning the Windows users would have to own an iOS or OS X device to sign-in. This sign-in part has been removed in the latest update.
Though this might sway a few users, Google Drive has been free since the start and is gaining more new customers than both iWork and Microsoft Office, showing Google's winning formula of essentially losing money.
Similar to Google Drive, iWork makes virtually no money. The only reason for Apple to sell the suite is to keep buyers on the OS X or iOS device, potentially buying iCloud storage to save documents.
This focus on offering a completely free product is something Microsoft cannot replicate due to Office being such a big revenue generator for the company. The launch of Office 365 only extended this due to the subscription model being lucrative with businesses.
iWork, which includes Paper, Numbers and Keynote, still has some necessary features missing compared to Office. But on mobile it seems to have caught user's interest with the download rate on Paper and Keynote.
