Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic has won her second Wimbledon title since winning it in 2011, defeating Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard at the All England Club in London.
The 24-year-old left-hander Kvitova was spot-on with her forehand returns and finished off Bouchard in what is considered to be one of the fastest finals matches in Wimbledon at 6-3 6-0 in just 55 minutes.
The grass court of Wimbledon is most likely Kvitova's element. She has reached the quarterfinals for five straight years.
"Yeah, I've played a lot of great matches and this is definitely one of them. I knew I could play well on the grass but I really played so well today," said Kvitova after her victory.
"A few shots were incredible, I couldn't believe I made them. I said to myself, Oh my God, this is good. I was there 100 percent, ready for everything," she added.
Bouchard, 20, has nothing to be ashamed of. Reaching any Grand Slam finals is an achievement in itself and with her finals appearance at Wimbledon, her Women's Tennis Association (WTA) World ranking will improve and will most likely land her in the top 10.
There were speculations that Bouchard might have been overwhelmed by being in the finals, which she denies, saying "She [Kvitova] played unbelievable and didn't give me many opportunities. For sure she was on. She has weapons and when she's on she is very tough to beat, especially on this surface. I just have to give her credit."
Martina Navratilova holds the most Wimbledon titles for the ladies' singles at nine. She watched in the Royal Box along with another compatriot, Jana Novotna, and eight other former Wimbledon ladies' champions. She is also from the Czech Republic and a left-hander and had nothing but praises for her countrywoman.
