Having previously won the three other major Grand Slam tournaments, Italian's Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci finally completed their collection in the form of the Wimbledon crown.

The Italian pair took only 56 minutes to claim their doubles title against the Hungarian-French duo of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic with a final score of 6-1 6-3.

Babos and Mladenovic defeated defending champions and reigning French Open champions China's Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-wei in the third round of play and had reasons to be confident entering the finals, but the more experienced Italian tandem committed no unforced-errors and no double faults while the Hungarian-French team committed eight and six respectively.

"I think we play perfect," Errani said after the match. "We were like very aggressive all the time. That was the important thing for us that we try to do it all the two weeks."

Errani and Vinci now have five major ladies' doubles Grand Slam titles and have matched those achieved by the tandem of tennis legends Czech Martina Navratilova and American Pam Shriver.  However, Navratilova and Shriver achieved their 5th crown after a span of six years while Errani and Vinci did it in only three years.

The 2nd seeds Errani and Vinci also made it into the record books of Wimbledon for being the first Italians to win a senior title in the All England Club.

"Unbelievable. I mean, no words to tell you what it is for us," Errani said. "We were thinking about that all the day, all the morning. (It) is very special."

In last year's Wimbledon, the Italians were then ranked top seeds but fell early in the tournament by losing to Germany's Julia Gorges and Czech Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova in the third round.

The Italian pair won their first Grand Slam tournament in 2012 at the French Open in Roland Garros against Russian's Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova.
