Canadian-based Neptune has announced its second generation wearable, this year coming with a 5-inch screen acting as the secondary part of the duo.
Named the Neptune Duo, it's part of a concept by 20 year-old inventor Simon Tian to make the wearable the main focus, and put the smartphone (what lacks the ability to call or store information) as the secondary device.

The Neptune Hub is the new wearable. It will be able to make calls, send SMS messages and pair with the Pocket, the 5-inch display that acts as a secondary way to play games, send messages and watch video.
"You're a slave to your smartphone," Tian declared at the launch event. "We're reversing the roles."
Tian believes by making the wearable store all the information, it will make it less risky to take a 'mobile' out on travels.
Pocket wakes up when it's paired with the Hub through NFC or Bluetooth. Tian didn't make it clear how much the Pocket can do, considering it's the better form factor for playing games, sending messages and watching YouTube.
Neptune started on Kickstarter, gaining $800,000 in funding for the first wearable product. Tian has been at the forefront of his wearable and wants to make wearables the front and center product of the digital revolution.
It might not work out right now, but Tian brings some good points about the future of wearables and how we might replace the smartphone with a dumbed down display.
The Neptune Duo will be available for $649. But early birds can pick it up for $498. Both options come with down payments.
