A dog named "Duo Duo" got her second chance at life when she met Bay Area woman Andrea Gung.
Duo Duo's story had inspired many to stand up and be heard against animal cruelty.
Two years ago, Duo was used as an experiment dog at a vet school in China. She was supposed to be sold for dog meat trade after the students were finished with their experiment.

With the dog probably just a day away from being sold and slaughtered, Gung originally from Sunnyvale California, spotted Duo from the school window. Gung had heard of the news about the little dog waiting to be butchered.
Gung offered the school to buy Duo. The Bay Area woman prepared for their return to California. She took Duo on a bus, then on a plane back to Sunnyvale.
"She made it over. It was a long journey," said Martha Lackritz, an East Bay California-based attorney, who had adopted Duo.
The dog now happily lives with Lackritz and her best buddy "Boomer".
Eating dog meat in China has been socially acceptable, as it has been part of an old but grim tradition.
Dogs are eaten as an emergency food when food was scarce.
Through the years, campaign against eating dog meat in China had been growing, with the number of animal lovers also increasing.
"For all of the people in China who are actively fighting against this, we stand with them," Lackritz said, adding that Duo is just one of the few dogs that luckily made it out alive.
Animal rights groups say most of the dogs being sold to Chinese restaurants appear to be stolen pets. Some still even have their collars on as they're transported to the slaughterhouse.
In June, 10,000 dogs were butchered for a traditional dog meat festival.
On Thursday, Duo Duo together with Lackritz and Gung, will lead a rally in San Francisco in protest to animal cruelty in China. They also urge China to pass new measures that will protect animal rights.
