Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed on Friday a motion with the state's Supreme Court to nullify the marriage license that Travis County issued to two lesbians.
In seeking to revoke the license, he insisted it breached a 10-year ban on same-sex unions and warned it could lead to legal chaos.

Travis County Judge David Wahlberg gave Sarah Goodfriend and Suzanne Bryant a one-time exemption from the state ban on gay marriage, taking into account Goodfriend's ovarian cancer.
The judge said if he would deny the lesbian pair a license, it would violate their constitutional rights.
He also ordered Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir to waive the mandatory 72-hour waiting period and to immediately issue a license, which she did, according to The Atlantic.
The couple has been together for three decades and have two adopted daughters.
The license made Texas history for being the first to be issued despite the ban.
Paxton, a believer that marriage is only between a male and a female, said that "the rough action of Travis County judges do not withstand the scrutiny of law," quotes Reuters.
Besides Paxton, Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick also disagreed with Wahlberg's decision.
In response to Paxton's filing with the Texas Supreme Court, Chuck Herring, the lawyer of the newly married couple, described the action of the attorney general as improper and out of sync with the reality of most states recognizing same-sex marriage.
The issue of same-sex unions is also now before the federal Supreme Court, which legal observers believe, would favor allowing gays and lesbians to marry.
Herring said, "If he [Paxton] wants to sue a woman who has ovarian cancer to try to take away her marriage license, so be it. His continuing meanness and lack of compassion are remarkable."
