Jackie Chan NOT Retiring from Cinema

(Photo : http://pictures.reuters.com/) Jackie Chan's statement during the Cannes Film Festival in the French Riviera sprouted news about his alleged retirement from the cinema. Chan mentioned that his film which was about to be shown then would be his last big action film. Chan was referring to the movie CZ12, most commonly known as "Chinese Zodiac."

Chinese Zodiac was indeed a big action film as it won Best Action Choreography at the 32nd Hong Kong Film Award. It also garnered recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records as the film with "Most Stunts Performed by a Living Actor" and "Most Credits in One Movie." Chinese Zodiac was released in December 2012. It was a slight makeover of a film franchise that started with and Armour of God, spinning to Armour of God II: Operation Condor.

Chan takes pride of this last big action film of his not only because of the awards and recognitions Chinese Zodiac bagged but also because Chan starred, directed, wrote and co-produced it. Most movie critics would agree that Jackie Chan performed his biggest stunts in the film when his character fought his way to a chamber. While in the battle, a furnace exploded and destroyed most of the setting facilities.

What Jackie Chan said during the press conference in Cannes did not only sprout news about his alleged retirement from the cinema but also paved the way to Chinese Zodiac's publicity and promotion. Chinese Zodiac was dubbed as Jackie Chan's last movie - whether it be for big action films or not. People, movie-goers and non-movie-goers alike, went out to see the film in the silver screen. Chinese Zodiac reached domestic figures of 879 million, grossed over US$ 145 million at the Chinese box office, and was officially declared as the 3rd Highest Grossing Chinese Film in China.

International star Jackie Chan, who starred in the recently concluded blockbuster movie, The Dragon Blade, revealed that he remains the big brother on set and holds the responsibility of taking care of the welfare of the staff and co-stars on set, according to Boon Chan via Strait Times.

The Dragon Blade star reportedly spent 'a few million' in Chinese Yuan on the food and refreshments such as coffee, tea, soda, biscuits, bread, cake and ice, which were available round the clock.

"I kept the best for all the foreigners. I would do my make-up in the public dressing rooms for all to see," says Jackie Chan, in response to the question that actor has the biggest trailer on set.

"I wanted the set to feel like home to them so that they would very comfortable and think that filming in China was not really bad at all. I didn't want them to give a bad impression," Jackie further added.

He also shares that most of the extras are not professional actors but foreign students studying in China. They were recruited to play the Roman soldiers in the movie.

Several scenes were shot in Gobi desert, one of the places that bear a huge challenge in sustaining its erratic weather.

"Even the horses would know to seek out the shade and you could see people hiding under the vehicles for a snooze. There was simply no shade to be found and even tents that were put up would be blown away when the winds came," says Jackie, in a previous interview with Life.

Temperatures fluctuated erratically, from a below freezing point temperature in the morning to a scorching hot above 50 degrees weather later in the afternoon. In addition, the actors had to wear heavy costumes with their respective armor.

Despite the weather condition, the action packed movie is still box office success.

'The Dragon Blade' is deemed to have the largest budget for a Chinese film though Jackie confesses that he doesn't feel too much pressure about its success.

"In the past, I would compare the box office of my films to with those of Sammo Hung and others. But today, it's not about beating anyone. It would be best if everyone did well," says Jackie.

Jackie Chan's perfect track record for all his movies can vouch for that. His movies still hit box office records, despite evolution of more CGI enhanced action movies.

"I have kept my Jackie Chan, very stupid style of making movies. And it is because I have stuck to the old school way of doing action flicks that I can still have a place in the top tier of movies," Jackie reveals this statement, in response how his films have kept its consistency through the years.

Jackie Chan's skills may have slowed down with age, he still capable to executing his moves smoothly and can sustain injuries like a professional martial arts actor.

The action star can't remember how many injuries he sustained while shooting the movie because his film projects are tightly scheduled.

His next action film is titled Skiptrace, an action comedy movie directed by Finnish director Renny Harlin.
