According to the report on June 20th, as Chinese men's national team just lost the game 1-5 against Thailand, Fan Zhiyi, the former Chinese nation team defender, expressed his confusion and anger when being interviewed. Fan said the result was shameful. There were almost no defensive players on the field. Fan questioned directly that some players were not qualified to be national team players at all. Fan Zhiyi said: "Why is Chinese football in such a low level? There are too few good players in the national team. Is Zhao Peng qualified to be a central defender? No. He doesn't have the ability to defend the center."

As Fan Zhiyi criticized Zhao Peng publicly, it caused uproar among the football fans. Many fans support Fan Zhiyi's view. Though being questioned, Zhao peng hasn't responded to it yet. However some of Zhao Peng's teammates stand out and speak for him. Zhang Lingpeng, also a player in Chinese national team, supported Zhao Peng when being interviewed. He said that Fan Zhiyi should learn how to respect others.
Zhang Linpeng said: "As football players, all of us hope to achieve good results for the national team. Though I didn't participant in this game against Thailand, I still feel very sad about the result. But I hope someone can show respect to my teammate, show respect to his family. Don't be so aggressive. This is the level of Chinese football team at present. There are many problems we need to solve."
Over the weekend, a faux dialogue between a Chinese soccer fan and a Thai fan appeared on Sina Weibo in various versions and edits. It has been forwarded and tweeted thousands of times.
