Meet the World's First Wearable Tomato Robot

Tomatan

Would you wear this robot?

From Japan, the land of advanced robotics and advanced robotic silliness, comes a truly creepy robot Norman Bates would love.

Heere's "Tomatan", the only robot in the world that feeds you tomatoes. It's also a wearable tomato -- the first in the world.

Tomatan is a backpack robot loaded with six tomatoes. As it rests on its user's shoulders, it looks like a small humanoid robot with a tomato for a head.

Pulling a tiny lever in its foot moves Tomatan's arms to catch a tomato from the shooter. The arms rotate the fruit over the wearer's head and hold it in front of his mouth for him to chomp on.

Tomatan weighs like a robot (it's heavy) and in this case comes in at 18 pounds (8 kg). But Tomatan's got a lightweight brother named "Petit-Tomatan" weighing just 3 kg.

Nomichi Tosa of Meiwa Denki, a company known for its strange devices and musical instrument said the company used about 100 tomatoes to complete this machine.

Tomatan made its public debut at five kilometer fun run in Tokyo over the weekend with Tosa draping the wearable tomato over his shoulders. Petit-Tomatan straddled a runner's shoulders at last weekend's Tokyo Marathon.
