Cartoon Network has announced the girls are coming back in 2016.  Rob Sorcher, the network's chief content officer, made the announcement at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo last year.

At the expo, Sorcher said that due to a massive demand for "sugar, spice and the mysterious Chemical X," the network is putting the girls back into action.

The animator for "Adventure Time", Nick Jennings, will be the comeback show's executive producer. The show's original animator, Craig McCracken, was not mentioned at all during the press conference.

McCracken was involved in the creation and animation of "The Powerpuff Girls,", which started in November 1998 and ended in March 2005.  During that time, children and adults alike watched 78 episodes of the trio.

The girls were created in a lab using sugar and spice by Professor Utoniom. The professor turned the three girls into super heroes because he accidentally spilled some Chemical X in the ingredients.

With their amazing abilities and strength, they were able to fight and defeat villains like Mojo Jojo, basically a monkey with a big brain, and Fuzzy Lumpkins. While battling the bad guys, they also have to confront situations and problems faced by normal girls their age.

In 2014, a special "Powerpuff Girls" show called "Dance Pantsed" was released.  The show was voiced by the original actors and they even has Ringo Starr on board.

Sadly, McCracken wasn't involved in the 2014 "Powerpuff Girl" special and it's possible that he won't be a part of the 2016 "Powerpuff girl" reboot series.  Cartoon Network is silent about the role McCracken will have in the upcoming series.  The original voice actors or most of them will return.
