Alleged pictures of the PS 4 slim version have been circulating online. Pocket-lint reported a certain source calling itself "Monolith" sent them pictures purporting to be image renders of the new upcoming PS 4 slim model.

Based on the current PS 4 console, the supposed slim version is indeed thinner. But slimmer has got problems. Gaming consoles like the PS 4 can get very hot, especially if played for long hours. 

Consoles usually have fans and cooling vents to keep temperatures down. The pictures don't show or explain how the fans or cooling vents fit in the slim frame.

Other analysts have pointed out the images are definitely fakes since its slim body has no room to accommodate the Blu-Ray disc needed to play games in PS 4.

Nevertheless, online rumor mongers are insisting Sony will unveil the PS 4 Slim version at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.

Industry pundits doubt Sony will ever do that in this year's expo. The PlayStation 4 is just over a year old.  Currently, Sony has sold over 1.8 million of these next generation gaming consoles and the numbers continue to rise.

This is one big reason Sony will unlikely release a slim version that will compete with its current and popular PS 4 version.

Sony has so far been silent about these rumors. Its official site doesn't even offer a hint about a possible newer slim version of the PlayStation 4. The supposed PS 4 slim version images have been deemed fakes.

Sales of the current PS 4 version are still going strong and Sony won't confirm any new version coming out any time soon. It seems the PS 4 slim version rumors are just simply rumors.
