Eddie Ray Routh, the main suspect in the killing of killing of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield back in February 2, 2013, was found guilty of murder.

The Texas jury in-charge of the case came up with the guilty verdict after almost three hours of deliberation but did not impose the death penalty on Routh.

Instead, Routh was sentenced to life in prison without any possibility of a parole.

Routh, 27, admitted that he killed both men at a shooting range in Rough Creek Lodge and Resort in 2013 and pleaded not guilty of the charges against him by reason of insanity.

His attorneys also pointed out that he was under medically diagnosed psychosis during the incident.

The former Marine served in Iraq but was not part of any combat groups nor did he take part of combat roles.

The prosecutors noted that Routh was drinking and smoking marijuana hours before the crime and he was paranoid due to being high.

He was also angry not because of the 90-minute long drive with Kyle and Littlefield but because he was living with his parents, he had relationship problems, he worried about money and he had no job.

He vented his anger on Kyle and Littlefield when they did not talk to him.

Experts weighed in and noted that Routh knew what he was doing when he killed these two men.

Kyle was shot four times on his back then once on his face while Littlefield died from five shots on his back.

The jurors of the case listened to a recording of Routh talking to a reporter based in New York via a phone call four months after the killings.

In the recording,  Routh said that what he did tore his heart out and he did not know why he did it but he did it. Routh added that he will live and learn from the event.

There was no statement yet from the widow of Kyle, Taya, regarding the decision of the jury but Littlefield's mother, Judy, released a statement saying that they are thrilled about the verdict as they waited for two years for justice to be served for their son.
